2004-10-31, United War Veterans Council of New York - New York City Veterans Day Parade organizers are still accepting applications for individuals and organizations to march in this year`s parade on November 11 up Manhattan`s Fifth Avenue.NEW YORK (PRWEB) October 31, 2004 -- It’s still not too late to sign up and march in this year’s Veterans Day Parade up Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, according to parade organizers. Simply download the application form off the United War Veterans Council website at http://www.thankyouforservingnyc.com, fill it out and fax it to the UWVC office.
New York City will salute military veterans of all wars and eras by hosting the Veterans Day Parade on November 11 up Fifth Avenue to midtown Manhattan. In honor of the hundreds of thousands of New York veterans, the parade will "honor all who served and are serving our great nation," according to Patrick Gualtieri, UWVC executive director.

Ever since the first Veterans Day - originally "Armistice Day" - was established in 1919, Americans have paused to salute the service and remember the sacrifice of the men and women who have kept us free.
"And rightly so," notes Mr. Gualtieri. "Throughout a century of conflict and change, the courage and commitment of America`s military men and women have never faltered. Through every skirmish and battle, in every war in every era, they have remained dedicated to the strength and survival of our nation."
The two major events are associated with this year`s Veterans Day observance in New York City. First is the 10 a.m. Eternal Light ceremony and wreath-laying at the Eternal Light Monument on Fifth Ave. between 23rd and 26th Sts. It is followed precisely at 11 a.m. by the ringing of church bells throughout the city which mark the beginning of the parade.
After the parade, a Veterans Benefits Fair will be held from 3-6 p.m. aboard the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum at Pier 46 – located at 46th St. and 12th Avenue (West Side Hwy.). The museum will host all veterans, family members and friends to an afternoon of military pageantry, music, entertainment and refreshments free of charge. A benefits area will provide veterans with a wealth of information about services available through city, state and national veterans agencies.
